The 3rd team played Boldon away to start their very first season in the Northumbria League. Although beaten 3-2 on the night they showed that they deserve to be in the league. Dan Cussack showed he has the right temperament after a shaky start and turned his game around with measured composed squash. It could have been a different result for their captain Mark Knott who narrowly lost the 4th game 15-14 to
loose 3-1. Keith Gray showed his fighting spirit gaining 2 points for his team
losing 2-3. A strong 3-0 win also for Peter Irlam.
They are looking forward to the re-match at the turn of the year.
The 2nd team were also away from home this week. Continuing their form from last season, this team is getting stronger all the time. They beat Dunston 4-1 coping well with their unique (hot) courts. Great result.
The men’s 1st team were narrowly beaten at home on Thursday against an ever strong Northumberland (Jesmond) 2nd team. Both Tony Hedley and Ian McAllister were beaten 3-2 but either match could have gone the other way. Good performances from Ian Morton and Andy Dolan secured 6 valuable points.
At No 1 in the team Andy Dolan played some truly magnificent top quality squash with some lengthy entertaining rallies.
Look out for the team’s home fixtures and come along to support their efforts.
