The usual Monday round robin and following Monday knock out format really demonstrated what complicated lives we all now seem to live. There were many changes to team line ups simply through unavailability (mostly work related) I understand and know that squash doesn’t pay any bills, work (and wives) have to come first.
Nine 3 man teams played the 1st round robin. One highest scoring runner up would make up the 3 group winners for the semi final knock out. Unfortunately all the matches were not finished on the night, Jack Davis kindly stepped in to play the outstanding matches later that week. Long story short the final was between Cunning Stunts (Dan Cusack, Peter Edney with Mark Livingstone standing in) who played The Good Bad and Ugly (Andy Lawrence- the only original player, Bruno Gaultier and Keith Grey.)
Cunning Stunts took the title, only just, winning by 2 points. 117 to 115.
Peter Edney played some outlandish winners but they kept coming and he always looked composed. These were no ‘flooks.’ Ask Robin Ritchie from the previous round, Robin simply had no answers to Peter’s placement. Great squash throughout.
Watch out for future competitions, it’s a great opportunity for all players to mix it with those above them. Give it a go.
